The event, which featured a stirring concert in the morning and a lively cultural fair in the afternoon, was coordinated by the Upper Dublin Chinese American Association (UDCA) in collaboration with the UDSD Asian American Students and Families Committee (AASF), UDHS Asian Students Association (ASA), Upper Dublin Library, Guanghua Chinese School, and other multiple organizations in the greater Philadelphia area. Back to Website   Lunar New Year is the most important holiday for many Asian communities. On February 10, 2024, the first day of the Lunar New Year, people of all ages from different ethnicities filled the seats of the Upper Dublin High School Performing Arts Center auditorium to enjoy a visual and audio spectacle, celebrating the Year of the Dragon, which symbolizes good fortune and success in Chinese culture. The gala event was co-sponsored and presented by the Upper Dublin Chinese American Association (UDCA), the UDSD Asian American Students and Families (AASF) committee, and Guanghua Chinese School (GHCS), with support from the Upper Dublin School District (UDSD). Back to Website   2023 UDCA Thanksgiving Celebration Isabella Xie, November 25 The Upper Dublin Chinese Association (UDCA) held its annual Thanksgiving celebration on November 25, 2023. After intensive preparations by the organizing committee, the gathering kicked off at 5 pm in the auditorium at Maple Glen Elementary School. The guests were entertained by many different performances, games, and a wide-spread table of food of both Chinese and American cultures. The event ended around 9 pm, with everyone feeling happy and full. There were more than 150 people who attended this event. The whole room was filled with joy. Before the official performance, Dr. Ling Liang, the president of UDCA, gave a speech for the event and reaffirmed the purpose of the association. Afterwards, the guests were presented with a table of American foods like roasted turkey, pumpkin pie, as well as Chinese food like baozi, tea, roasted vegetables and chicken. Back to Website   January 21, 2023 in the lunar calendar was Lunar New Year’s Eve. Lunar New Year, known as the Spring Festival, is the most important holiday for Chinese and Asian communities. Based on the Chinese Zodiac, a repeating 12-year cycle of 12 animals, 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. People of all ages gathered at the Upper Dublin Public Library on January 21 to attend a celebration event, watch a world-class musical demonstration, enjoy fun cultural activities and food, and learn about holiday traditions. World-renowned musicians Wu Man and Hsin-Yun Huang performed in the Shanis Auditorium. Wu Man is considered one of the world’s premier pipa (a traditional lute-like Chinese instrument) virtuoso, while Hsin-Yun Huang is a world-class violist. Together, the two musicians also told stories about their instruments, shared their own experiences with practices and performances, and answered questions from the audience.
